Puente Romano, the embodiment of Marbella glamour

Callum Swan, December 2019 | Areas - Our view

The Puente Romano is a Marbella institution, an icon, and landmark of the famous Golden Mile. It is the younger sister hotel of the Marbella Club Hotel, where the legend of Marbella as a global luxury destination began. This reputation was already well-established by 1979 when the Puente Romano opened its doors in a prime beachside position alongside the Golden Mile.

The birthplace of Marbella glamour

Since then, the two resort hotels have complemented one another as they entertain discerning guests from around the world. The latter include royalty, aristocracy, business tycoons, sportsmen, heads of state, Hollywood actors and many other celebrities, as well as those who simply enjoy quality and style in refined surroundings. In this sense, the Puente Romano embodies Marbella.

The Puente Romano is different from many other luxurious resorts because it feels more like a sprawling Mediterranean village than a typical hotel complex. For one thing, it is low-rise, spread out between lush gardens and feels like a private villa. The resort hotel’s name is derived from a two-thousand-year-old bridge that once connected this spot with Rome, at the heart of the Roman Empire.

Setting

The setting is the finest address in Marbella, on the beachside of the famous 6,5-kilometre palm-lined avenue that connects Marbella town and Puerto Banús. As such, the Puente Romano has shopping, dining, golf, horse riding, nautical sports and a host of other activities and services on its doorstep – quite apart from the five-star deluxe amenities of the resort itself.

Properties – living at the Puente Romano

It is within this parkland landscape that you will also find the luxurious apartments, penthouses and private villas that make up the highly select residential part of the Puente Romano. Arranged around a series of exquisitely landscaped Mediterranean and Japanese gardens, these Puente Romano frontline beach properties represent some of the finest homes on Marbella’s Golden Mile.

From luxurious apartments surrounded by greenery and panoramic penthouses with fantastic sea views to beachside villas at the Puente Romano, these are not only super homes in a privileged position but properties with the five-star deluxe services, amenities, and ambiance of a luxury resort on their doorstep.

Amenities

For people who own a property at the Puente Romano, there is a world of luxuries surrounding them, including the Six Senses Spa – one of the finest wellness centres in Marbella, where pampering in a sumptuous environment awaits.

The Puente Romano even offers a ‘five-star deluxe hotel within a five-star deluxe hotel’ in the form of the boutique offering of the Nobu Hotel, which offers design-driven suites with superb style and service.

Sport

Situated in the hills nearby are the Marbella Club’s very own golf course and equestrian centre in the hills nearby. Close to the luxurious apartments at the Puente Romano is the Puente Romano Tennis Club, the home of tennis and paddle tennis in Marbella. Among the directors of this prestigious venue, which also hosts international tennis tournaments and stylish summer concerts, have been the likes of Bjorn Borg and Manolo Santana.

Beachside sophistication and fine dining

The Puente Romano properties and hotel enjoy a prime Golden Mile beachfront location overlooking the sands of a peaceful section of the beach. It is home to the Sea Grill, where you can enjoy seaside fine dining in the midst of classic Marbella refinement, with the stylish El Chiringuito beach club nearby.

The proliferation of excellent restaurants and diverse cuisines at the Puente Romano has made it a reference for fine dining on the Costa del Sol. Indeed, La Plaza at the heart of the hotel has become the centre of cuisine in Marbella too, with an offering that includes the internationally renowned

Nobu, with its superlative Japanese cuisine; Pizza Romano – Italian family restaurant with a typical dash of Puente Romano flair; the sophistication of Serafina; Asian cuisine taken to another level at the Thai Gallery; the trendy and delicious Monkey Club; healthy eating for a modern century at Rachels and Celicioso; Michelin-star offerings at Bibo by Dani García; and La Suite, one of the most sophisticated nightclub venues in Marbella.

The hotel’s VIP Owners Club provides a sophisticated environment for guests to relax, network and work, with more of the comprehensive concierge services that enable those who stay or own property at Puente Romano to have access to a wide range of specially curated experiences, from sailing and sports to culture, endurance and special requirements. It extends to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, some two-and-a-half hours away, where the smaller hotel, The Lodge, offers the same level of service, refinement and exclusive ambiance combined with chalet-style appeal.

All of this forms the backdrop to living, visiting and owning a home at the Puente Romano, Marbella.
